Rutgers needs adequate and stable public funding to support and expand its
academic and research programs, continually improve the quality of its offerings,
maintain equipment and facilities, and meet the rising demand for a Rutgers
education. FOR advocacy is helping to ensure that the university receives
these essential resources.
State Funding
As New Jersey’s largest comprehensive public university, Rutgers depends
on state appropriations as well as tuition and fees to fund instruction,
academic support, student services, research, extension and public services,
and facilities.

Federal Funding
The federal government provides significant funding to Rutgers, primarily
in the form of student financial aid and research support. Nearly half of
Rutgers' students get some form of federal aid, while federal research funding
brings more than $170 million into the state each year.
